About this project

The International Peace Mandalaproject, based in P’hurba T’hinley Ling (Lansing, IA, USA), is led by Khandro Kunzang Dechen Chodron.. One of the branches of this project is the project Peace Mandala Mexico.

The Peace Mandala Mexico arose from the compassionate vision of Acharya Dawa Choddak Rinpoche , who, during his first visit to the city of Cholula (Puebla, Mexico) in 2009, perceived the need to change the mental and environmental conditions of the people of this country.

PARTS OF THE PROJECT:

I. Three-dimensional Peace Mandala Exhibition

The installation of this Tibetan artwork in Mexico is of great significance, as it is a work of singular beauty and color, unique in this country. It also denotes profound spiritual significance, as it represents Tibetan cosmology.

This exhibition will be open to the public so that anyone who wishes can come and visit it.

II. Creation of a Vajrayana Buddhist Retreat Center

Associated with the Mandala, a Retreat Center is planned, not only dedicated to the practice of Vajrayana Buddhist practices, but also available for activities and workshops for both the local and international community. All activities should promote respect and integration of cultures. Participants of all ages are welcome, ranging from infancy to senior citizens.

III. Creation of a Botanical Garden

This space will be dedicated to the conservation and exhibition of native plants. Workshops on knowledge and respect for the environment will be held, which will allow participants to learn about the geology, fauna and flora of the place, as well as the ancestral customs of its inhabitants. This space can be enjoyed by schools and other organizations or groups.

PROJECT STAGES

The Peace Mandala Mexico Project involves a series of stages that began with the wood carving of a three-dimensional Vajrakilaya Mandala, made in Nepal according to the instructions of the Dudjom Tersar lineage.

This stage concluded in April 2023 when the Mandala arrived at Mexico City. The Mandala is currently stored in this city.

The next stages of the project involve finding the appropriate location, near the Popocatepetl volcano, where the Mandala will be placed. This is the stage we are currently in.

Once the land is acquired, work will be carried out to prepare it for the installation of the Mandala, as well as for the construction of the retreat center and the creation of the botanical garden.

The conclusion will come with the consecration of the mandala, in accordance with tradition. This will mark the beginning of the exhibition, retreats, and cultural activities at the site.
